some of his stuff is just soso, but then sometimes he'll just pull out these crazy grooves that just sound so cool

Yea i use it alot though in day today speech like " Day-um Maw, this fried chicken is BOSS, Like Level 97 Bowser Boss with the wing cap "

man I like that kit. and I am not usual a fan of exotic kits.

also the only thing I got from that video was the prayer hand stretch thing. It feels sooooo good.

thats the part i dont get. according to jojo mayer in the secret weapons dvd, stretches like this are actually bad for speed.

also, that stretches the wrists...which you really shouldn't be using that much in an exercise like this...this should be mostly fingers.

im not saying he's not fast, im saying that he isnt using his energy as efficiently as he could.

he is using way too much arm/wrist movement, and not utilizing his fingers enough as he could. there is no right or wrong, its just not how i would do it.

oh i see your point, he does actually use a lot of arm and wrist. I never noticed that before

That was the first thing I noticed, as well. At some point, everyone has a tendency to put as much energy/movement as they can into faster, strained playing like he's doing, so that might have been why. I'm sure if he brought it down to 130 or so he'd be much more relaxed. But it is a little odd that he'd put out a lesson that features "poor" technique.

He seemed to be just behind the beat most of the time as well. Did anyone else hear that?

Yea, ideally it'd be fingers, but when you wanna have those notes heard you are gonna use a lot more than that and waste a good bit of energy.

I thought his technique was pretty good. There is nothing wrong with using your wrists, its overusing your arms thats bad IMO. It just shows that mike is not the terminator and he is human like the rest of us!

i agree with dave, wrist and finger movement are important
when youre flailing your arms around the set in the middle of fills then theres a huge issue
