Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Ok dudes, sorry to bring this up again but can any one talk me through what they do when changing snare wires or putting the wires back on the butt end and throw off.
I think my problem is solved but i just want to quadruple check that i haven't left out anything, i have no idea what i done to fix the problem but it seems ok now, i just want to be sure (i feel like a noob all over again).
Thanks guys.
EDIT: and yes ali please develop.....

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
okay,
i will usually set the drum upside down and make sure the snares are flipped off and the tension is all the way loose as it can go, lay the wires on the head and then feed the strips or strings or whatever through the butt end and the throw off, tighten up the clamps that hold on to the strips/strings and while doing so, pull the wires tight with your hand to increase the tension from the get-go, then flip the drum over or put it on a stand, then flip the snares to the on position, and then adjust the tension until it gets where it needs to be.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
i understand man. i've been there, i hate replacing snares and snare side heads, it seems like i just don't do it often enough to be really familiar with how i like it tuned and everything, it always takes me awhile to get my snare back to sounding "right"

Remind me to never never never never never ever rehammer a cymbal ever again.
Let's leave it at that.

Well, I bought a new Ball Peen hammer from a hardware store, and thought that my Legacy could use a little experimenting.
I was reading a bunch of Johan VDS and MBettis threads, and thought I could probably make my Legacy better.
Let's just say it was once a trashy ride, its now just trash.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
wait dude, did you seriously hammer your legacy ride, or did you do more hammering on the other cymbal that you convinced cjbee was an artisan?

Crap, Ali, I really hope you're joking about this. Gotta be honest with ya, that just sounds like an incredibly stupid thing to attempt.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Ali is definately joking! He waited ages to get that bad boy and it was a "stressful" buy (one minute it was his, next minute he couldb't get it) There is no way he hammered it!
Yea matt i know what you mean its gonna take me a while to sort it out right now it sounds ok but snare buzz is happening on every drum haha.
My old drum mentor is coming round tomorrow night to look at it and hopefully sort it. I have never ever ever had this problem before, and can't seem to find any info on the net about it. Hopefully tomorrow it will be sorted.

Did you heat the cymbal up to the correct temperature? If not, that was your first and biggest mistake,

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
I really doubt he did it.
But IMO if are stupid enough to take a hammer to legacy and you don't know what you are doing you deserve to screw up.

Seriously though, glad to hear you're alright.
And hey, Sam, I may or may not have accidently reported your post while trying to quote it. My browser jacked up and restarted right after so I'm not sure if if went through or not. Apologies, regardless.
