Re: The Kit of the Month: June.
the drummaker hoops are quality, i don't think there are any dents, i could be wrong though, because i use pro mark sticks, and because the location of the logo on the sticks, i have some very faint black marks on my hoops....
Re: The Kit of the Month: June.
ohh yeah the black ink doesn;t bother me. unless the sticks wer JJ sigs, then i wouldn't want blood all over my wood hoops. haha

Yeah, the red blood satin stain wouldn't look good against the blue color of your shells.
Re: The Kit of the Month: June.
yeah that's true. I probably should return the 12 pack brick of those sticks I bought.

I had the same problem with mine for the first couple of months, but I switched back to Vater after that. I rimshot probably 90 percent of the time, so I was noticing a lot of ink being transfered to the hoops, and it was really bugging me. Haven't had any problems with mine since though.
Re: The Kit of the Month: June.
Yeah, Vater 5Bs have always been my primary choice, but I did go for a few months using ProMark models just for a change. They're definitely quality sticks.
Re: The Kit of the Month: June.
Yeah, I love the ProMark 5Bs personally, I've always been a 5B guy, but i dabbled in 5A for a bit...
Re: The Kit of the Month: June.
I'm a big fan of 3As in Vic Firth or Vater.

Man, the final round is too short. I swear it wasn't up this morning (mine) and it closed already (6:30pm). Unfair! And sam didn't even get one vote! That's where mine would've gone.

90 percent? Jeez. Anyway, I do a lot of rim-shotting (not 90%, however) and use pro-mark and have had any marks as of yet. My top hoop came with a slight dent on the outside/top, but nothing major. But there's been no dents yet, though when felt they are a slight ripple where I rim-shot.Taylor. wrote:Matt wrote:the drummaker hoops are quality, i don't think there are any dents, i could be wrong though, because i use pro mark sticks, and because the location of the logo on the sticks, i have some very faint black marks on my hoops....

Well it depends on the situation of course, and dynamics obviously play a part... but I've just always preferred the feel and sound of a rimshot on the backbeat in most situations. That's just me though.
Keeping that in mind, my wood hoops have been extremely durable. Had em' for about a year and a half, and aside from just a few small dents, the only damage is some splintering in one spot. And that's only my fault for not rotating the hoop and playing on it in the same spot for a few months.
Re: The Kit of the Month: June.
Most definitely. Nothing like a powerful rim-shot on the back-beat, also my music doesn't demand too much rim-shotting, mostly just in fills and when I need to fill in a pattern.Taylor. wrote:InSight. wrote:

Oh, I really need to rotate mine, but then again I don't do a ton of rim-shotting so it shouldn't be as demanding.
