J's Solar Hand hammering project!
before clips.
http://www.supload.com/listen?s=vu91yD
after first round of hammering on the top hat clip.
http://www.supload.com/listen?s=EiRGIc
These were recorded with the mic above the hats, so that's what you can't hear the kit that well...
the hammering made the top hat extremely dry and dark! I'm going to do some light hammering on the bottom pretty soon.
now the pictures. haha I went crazy with the hammering.
before...
after!
but I really like these hats right now. extremly woody stick. I think I'm ready to start selling my creations. :¡This Cheese is Burning Me!!:

It's not as clean looking; it has a lot of grime on it.

Re: J's Solar Hand hammering project!
Looks and sounds great Jeffrey. The after soundfile sounds way better than before (obviously). I've never hammered hi hats, but if my Meinl Ride is anything to go by, after a few days to a week, their sound will start to change. They'll probably get a bit more livelier, more wash/slosh. But that's just from my experience with my ride, your hats may be totally different.
Oh, I just remembered I have some old Pearl hats here, as well as my old B8's. I'll probably leave the B8's, but I might have a go at the Pearls, as they're just sitting in the spare room collecting dust.

Is that all the hammering you're doing to them? It's so... not a lot. Haha.

cool I'm hoping the top hat will open up a tinkle bit. I probably hammered too much in one setting or something.
yeah man definately have a go with those pearl hats.
haha. believe me I can do more. haha.Skinny. wrote:Is that all the hammering you're doing to them? It's so... not a lot. Haha.

Re: J's Solar Hand hammering project!
Hah, that could be cool. Just make sure they retain their shape... for the most part. If I were you, I would just go nuts with the hammering, meaning don't leave any surface space unhammered. Haha.

yeah but who cares if they don't retain their shape ¡This Cheese is Burning Me!?
haha I thought about that. I'm pretty sure it would be completely dead and lifeless.
hammering is just too much fun, I don't want to be done yet..

Re: J's Solar Hand hammering project!
It looks like the hammering you've done so far is relatively small, pin point hammering. You should try using a differnet hammer to get some larger marks.
It might be cool
It might be cool
Re: J's Solar Hand hammering project!
I don't think I have any large ball pein hammers. I'll check though.
