I created this thread for the people on this forum, whom might be like me, where they may or may not be indecisive at times. Do you need help deciding what to get next? Have us give you advice!

I'm gonna start.

What should I buy first, a full batter head replacement (including bass batter And reso) and get the 18" traditional or Dark Energy crash, or just get the 22" Traditional Swish?

hmm, well, i'd say it depends on the condition of your current heads...

The heads became minorly dented because the sticks I was using had no real tip anymore... I know, I know. The bass batter and reso are stock from over two... maybe almost three years ago.

That's a pretty hard one, the head and crash would be nice, but then those swishes would be a really nice addition. You should pull out the old eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Very Happy

I sort of haven't got much to buy, and I know what I want and in what order.

I guess:

14x6 Maple (not sure of ply's, Sam) with a clear lacquer and wood hoops, or a different, more exotic snare/material? (either way by Metro Drums)

Maple is such an over-used wood, I would delve into a wood that give you a different sound characteristics, like Cocobolo, Wenge, Jarrah, Teak, Purpleheart... Or you can give them a REALLY hard job and make them make the snare out of Ipe.

Yeah but that's the thing, I love my current snare. I can pull all my favourite sounds out of it, hence why I was going to stick with Maple. I don't mind the idea of Jarrah, but it's far more expensive.

Wait, was I meant to reply to your answer, or leave it be?

Shawn,
New Skins then 22" swish! Thats what i would do, unless your skins could hold out a while.

I'm thinking they won't now. The Fiberskyn on the snare, I threw out and I put one one of my used Ambassadors on it. Does not sound good... Sad I'm wonder what head set-up I should get. Emperors all-around; Ambassadors all-around; Emperors on toms and Ambassador on snare? should I go with the Evans equivalent instead? what kind of bass batter should I get?

Why did you throw out your snare fiberskyn affraid was it bubbling??
I think for my next big head change im going for suede emps/ as tom batters, ebony for tom resos. Keeping the FS on my snare(maybe ill go for the skyntone). FS kick reso(stock ported reso for mic'd sitatuions) and a coated amb kick batter.

The coated amb/ FS combo on the kicksounds freaking huge! The last time i played that combo it was on a little 18" kick and it sounded BOSS! It was my teachers kit and i played around a little, felt strip on the batter side etc. Sounded great!

Of course that will be a mega head change and im not gonna do it just yet, its a huge change from my usual clear ambs all round on the toms.

I'll try the G1 again, it sounded good when it was on the last time. I'm thinking I might try coated emperors or G2s this time around, but I don't know what I'm using for my kick batter. The resonant is gonna either be a suede ambassador or coated ambassador.

Oh yes, the fiberskyn was about 9 months old and it was just becoming a bad head... Plus the fact that it was bubbling on half the head.

^^^I think im gonna try the skyntone on my snare next, my FS has some minor bubbling and its only 2-3 months old, i love the sound of it but im just worried about this. I think the skyntone will produce the same deep fat tone but not bubble as much, we'll see.

Coated amb is the dark horse of kick batters!

I think I'm being given a hint... The only thing is that I'm kind of worried about using a Fiberskyn on my drums again. Rounded 30 degree edges do not agree with them. Maybe a Suede instead?

Yea if you want that FS tone and boom, the remo skyntone are said to be similar, it really depends on sound! The suede could work nicely.
