Aww, crap...
I just found a used 14x5 snare with wood hoops, for only 2000 SEK (about 250 USD). The brand is African American Drum Company, which seems to be another Keller-custom-builder.
I want it, but I'll have to borrow money from my parents to afford it.

Hmm, I'm not a fan of that finish with the hoops. Nor do I like those lugs. It's Maple, yes?

edit: the finish isn't bad. I just dislike those lugs, they don't go with the drum at all (IMO)

But if I were to buy it I would ask him about that, ofc.

i think that snare looks ok, but i think triple flanged or diecast hoops would look better

Yeah, but that's the problem.
I don't know if I can go for it, because I have to borrow some money from my parents. And it will be very hard to talk them into doing it, since I bought my VP snare less than 6 months ago...
But I would love to have another snare, and that's an awesome deal. Also, I might be able to sell my VP and maybe make some money on that. (If I feel like I don't want it anymore, or whatever.)

Well, I like my VP but It feels like it might be a little "too much" for me. And I'm having some trouble getting the sounds I want from it. Maybe something a little bit more verstile would be better, like this one.

No, and that can also be another problem. I can't try it since it's about 800 km away...
But it shouldn't sound much different than your standard 14x5 maple snare, should it?

It shouldn't sound bad, but it won't sound standard. Especially with the wood hoops.

I don't like the snare Per. Its not for me AND if you can't play it i wouldn't buy it!
Why not just refinish your VP! They are great snare drums! Play with heads and tunings and you'll get a good sound! Even muffle it a bit if its too much like you said!

oh, i must have missed that part, i wouldn't buy it if you couldn't play it first, even if it is just another keller company, just because the shell is good doesn't mean the edges, the hardware, the beds and all the other variables are solid.
