well, actually, that'd be better than nothing i guess, i've heard nothing but good things about the Platinum line.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
well yeah, i was just saying, hypothetically.
i mean, if i'm getting endorsed, i'm gunning for a yamaha endorsement for drums....

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
oh, that's sick, have you ever gone on like a tour or anything like that?
DW would probably be in my top 3... I'd say if yamaha wouldn't endorse me, i'd try out Craviotto, then probably DW or Pearl...

well dang I have a very little amount of money left after just paying for the CS snare..
so it won't be worth it for me to go down there unless I could trade in my C-1000s.. but they never replied to my email about it.

just show up with them, i bet they'd be down with it, or call them.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
So I spent about an hour recording this morning, I had a few old guitar pieces/songs on my Mac, and decided to overdub some drumming into the recordings. Well with me having a mere set of iPod headphone mics, obviously they aren't going to produce the best raw cuts. Especially being close to drums, but everybody knows wearing earmuffs produces a sort of 'pre EQ'd' sound. So I stuck the mic in there, and whoa! It brings out beautiful recordings, really nice. Not all tiny and crunchy, but smooth, deep recordings. So I put them over a few songs, put some raw drum tracks down for later reference and yeah. Just thought I'd share that.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Congratulations Levi! I'm honestly looking forward to seeing the room, it sounds fantastic.Levi. wrote:OK, so tonight I moved my drums over to the new practice room. It's still not 100% finished yet, but it's good enough for us to get in there and start playing. So, we've still gotta do:
-The door: Door seals and put soundproof material inside.
-The baffle on the exhaust fan.
-The fresh air intake and baffle (we should do this before the door seals )
-The air con, but that's not a priority right now, seeing as its winter.
- A window, but that will probably wait a fairly long time.
So, we don't have any acoustic treatment in there yet, and my drums do sound pretty damn good. They're very very boomy, maybe even a little too boomy, but they do sound good. I still have to play around with the tuning and get it perfect.
Me and my brother were in there tonight playing around with a few new originals, and I was thinking that there was something missing in my kit. I felt like I really needed another crash/ride sound. Something with a nice clicky, woody ride sound, and a big wall of sound crash sound. I'm definitely leaning towards a Dream Bliss 20". There's a few that I like, I just gotta narrow it down. And it will be easy to get permission from my dad. I just have to tell him it's for our recordings (he's really into us getting the best recording sound). Waaaiiittt, I'm 18 now, I don't need to get permission off anyone anymore.
Soo, the near future should be fun, new cymbals, new studio, and recording.
Ha-ha, not finished yet! But you're definitely on the track, it was the best feeling the day I was able to get my drums into my new space. It was raining, so difficult to transport the drums out in the weather, but eventually I got everything out there. Set it up, and BOOOOOM. My god it sounded horrible in there, but having a low roof, parallel walls, hard, flat textured walls and next to no furniture it was quite expected. From sounds of things yours isn't quite as bad, you're lucky.
Oh man, I know what you mean. I've sat down a few times and just gone 'I need something, I need this'. Unfortunately I never have the money to fulfil this need, but I can dream right
I hope you do end up getting it man, it would be a very nice acquisition.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
There really wouldn't be a great deal. I mean, apart from the obvious hardware, finish and shell ply's there really wouldn't be much. Even less would be audible. Personally I find a lot of their 'seller' parts over-rated, anybody could get by without a golden-ratio air-vent. Sure, these little things do adjust the tone/sound. But is it really worth the extra money? I'm not trying to put you off, and I'd love to see you with an MCX Ali. I'm just stating that the difference is somewhat minor, and they kill you with a price. Pretty stupid if you ask me, they should really merge the two together if you ask me. It would looks and sound amazing with the wood hoops however!Ali G wrote:I wonder how big a difference there is between the MCX and VMX. I'd love an MCX, but if the VMX shells are similar, why not get a VMX instead, heh.
Because if I were to get one, I'd possibly upgrade the hoops to wood hoops anyway, and I wouldnt care too much about the ISS mounts, because I'd probably have it on a snare stand.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
What a prick, I would've loved to have seen your kit with a new reso. Oh well, we can only go on can't we. No point it wrecking your day, it won't make any difference. Some people are just inconsiderate and down-right butt-holes, just keep trying and with hope you will find a new buyer with time.Ali G wrote:I'm pissed again.
I was going to sell my XS20 crash and buy a new reso.
But the stupid *** guy, told me to reserve it since LAST MONTH, and today he tells me he bought a new crash and can't buy it.
****ing moron.
He's a sucky drummer too. Doesn't pay for his own fecal matter. His daddy buys it for him. I hate dickheads like that.
yeah, I;m really ticked.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
ash -- re:merging MCX and VMX... it's all about money, if they merged the two, the price for a shell pack would probably be around 1000-1250
having a maple kit in the 800 price range is really good, it puts some heat on other companies, it gives the ProM some competition... well, the meridian... which i'd probably prefer over a VMX, but not an MCX.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
ha, honestly, I've always wanted a Pearl Masters kit, I want a Yamaha MCAN way more though.
Pearl makes quality products, even if they hire shady folks.
