Re: J's new setup. impulses ftw!
Nice setup Jeffrey.
I've hand hammered my old Meinl Laser(B8) 20" Ride. Before the hammering, it was your everyday, bright, clangy, annoying, cheap beginner sounding cymbal. After the hammering, which might I add is still not fully finished, it's dark, washy, it has an extremely metallic stick sound, and is still pretty clangy. It's not crashable, as it's still fairly heavy. I would really like to get it lathed, and make it thinner, so it can open up and be crashed. It's profile is still all over the place, high spots and low spots, etc, so i want to finish it off.
Jeffrey, just incase you don't know, be prepared for the cymbal/s to turn into big tacos after you start hammering them. But don't worry, just keep pounding on them and they should turn out OK. Have you done your research, do you know about how to change the tension and everything, what parts of the cymbal control the different sounds? If you know about that, you'll do fine, if you don't know, you'll pick it up quickly. Have fun with your re-creating, and I look forward to hearing them.

thanks for the tips levi. I read some of mike skiba's guide on cymbalholic.
and my solar top hat didn't taco. =(
and hammered the balls out of it.
ha dave I could do some flavour holes if I want.. we'll see.
I just got done with my first round of hammering. before and after clips with pictures to come in a new thread in the cymbal section..
