i like it, something about the 3(technically 4) piece setup is just so pleasing to me nowadays.

agh, I'm probably getting the Platinum kit.

But I can't decide between

i) Copper Glass
ii) Black Mirra
iii) Green Glass

I can't really judge Green glass though, because I've never seen a full kit in it.

But Black Mirra is SEXY.

that's a tough choice, i mean, copper is timeless, but there are so many kits in that champagne-ish finish....

I agree. That's a tough choice.

The Black Mirra looks great too, but I think the light sparkle/flake in the finish would become significantly less visible the farther away you were from the kit. Which is alright I suppose, but that light flake really gives it some class.

I found this picture of the Black Mirra on a Platinum kit, it's very simple, which is either a good thing or a bad thing.

I love the Champagne glass look too though.

Here's the only closeup of Copper Glass I could find. It looks not so Champagne-y in this pic.

WOW! Memphisdrumshop's youtube channel just put up videos of some Pearl Reference kits.

I always expected them to sound great, but listening to the Yamaha Maple custom, maple custom absolute, BCA, AND the DW Jazz and Collectors series maple, they ALL sound WAY better.

I don't know if it's just a recording thing, or the tuning was off, but the reference's sound quite dead, while the others, the Yamaha Maple kits and DW Maple kits in particular, are full of tone and loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeely sound.

I'm not judging the whole reference series by this clip, but considering they have the same recording quality..

Hi guys, i started back school this week and between this, teaching drums, orchestra and all sorts of stuff i haven't been online.
I gotta agree with you Ali, i saw those videos last night and was not overly impressed, i think its a tuning thing though, some weird bass overtones on the ones i watched i think, has that "beach ball" boiing which i don't like. The mcan and dw jazz sounds great but the Pearl just ain't cutting it for me.

Also ali those PDP kits look great. I love the copper one, and what you said about the black mirra being the same as the dw one is true. PDP platinums share some finishes with DWsuch as the tangerine glass/sparkle/fade and the black mirra etc.

I just found out the platinum series DOES have 18x16 bassdrums!

and did you guys know the have 23" Bass drums for the platinum series? I find that pretty cool. Though I'd never get one.

That surprises me about the 23" kicks.
I was really expecting them to keep that as a Collectors Series kit exclusive option.

Really gotta give DW some credit, they've taken the PDP gear a long way in recent years.
A few years ago, I never would've expected them to release a kit as nice as the Platinums. They continue to surprise me, it seems.

All that said... I still hate the oval lugs though. haha.

-23" in the platinum line... that's tempting.

i've played two refs at Fork's and the snares always sounded great, but the kick and toms sounded dead there too.

gosh.

I sent an E-mail to DW yesterday asking if they had any high quality photos of the finish "Forest Green Glass"

I said the picture on the website didn't show off the colour that well, and asked if they had any pictures of set up kits, or even just a closeup on the tom, with a good camera.

They replied:

"Sure, here is a link to a really good picture of the Forest Green Glass.

So, the latest update on my 19" Dream situation...

Andy Morris (Dream) has totally stopped responding to my emails, I've sent like three that have gone totally unanswered. So, my plan now, is to try to just take it to Fork's and see what they can do for me....

Ideally, I'd go in with the 19" bliss, and come out with a gibraltar 8610 flat base cymbal stand, and a few other smaller pieces of hardware.... we'll see.

Arrgh. That sucks man.
Hopefully he'll get around to replying eventually, but taking it to Fork's sounds like a good idea too.

What kinda hardware are you looking into getting?

Well, I'd like to pick up one of the Gibraltar flat base cymbal stands, maybe a nicer cowbell mount, and there are a couple of DVDs I am considering too.

I'd really like to pick up "kick snare hat" it's got Nisan Stewart, Aaron spears, Gerald Hayward and Cora something. I think that's the four that are in it, I may be wrong though. I've watched a few clips online and it seems pretty good.

Sounds good Matt. Hopefully you can at least get something for the cymbal.
That DVD looks pretty sweet, there was an article about it in MD a couple months back.

Sounds sweet Barrett, get some pics up.
You could make some super tight beats with the mini hats and the Firecracker.
I won't be going to MDS to meet JJ. I just dont fell like right now its worth the hassle of international travel.
