Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
kick and floor is the way to go. i honestly think if i do add more toms, i'll add both my 10 and 12 and mount them off the kick, IF i add more toms at all.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
I've been gone at camp for the past week, and just spent the last half hour reading through this thread.
Damn it moves fast.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
sorry levi, i knew i left out someone haha
Anyways about the "drum-off" my favourite tracks in order are:
Joint First:-
1.ITALOJAZZER (what a track, best track by FAR IMO, just listening to it inspired me, such fun syncopations and really great contrasting rhythms between the sections i love it)
1.Lets Play One 100 (my secret favourite haha again just listening to it inspired me, nice little brush track)
3.Denny's Track
4.Burn the Bridge
The rest are all equal, none of the others really stood out to me apart from calf killa but it stood out because i really didn't like it much.

It's cool, I'll forgive you
And I can't wait to see all you guys videos for this thing. I'm a little disappointed that I can't do it, but oh well, it'll be fun anyways.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Yeah I just wanted a kick and floor tom I really dont need anything else. I am also very excited and the turnaround time is very short aswell
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Yea Alo every competition so far that i have made has had that rule but no one goes by it well i tend not to vote for myself anyways.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Thanks guys I will be using an Acro with it and I also have my 13" tama metalworks, but I have put some thought into a 14x8 snare...idk if I will go for it just yet and I am in the market for some new hats...I love my 16" dreams but they are not bright and cutting enough so I am looking at so 15" Paiste Giant Beats
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
i was tempted to get a jingle wedge for my 12" snare but got the normal wedge instead.
Barrett-- If you are looking for a sick 14x8, check out Black Panther's Big Cat snare, it's new, i don't know if you can buy it just yet, but it's got a shell quite similar if not the same as the saturn series, and i'm willing to say it probably sounds amazing.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Matt I asked about it but I decided against it, I am going for a Gretsch Rosewood or a Ludwig Classic Maple
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
hmm, those are nice choices too.
If you get the Ludwig, would you get it in a matching finish with the kit?

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
i haven't, i've been to Fork's numerous times, but I haven't made the journey all the way down to MDS yet....
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Its the same specs as a groove wedge with 8 little jingles in it.
It is the BEST purchase i have ever made for my kit, sounds killer!
It dampens the snare a wee bit and lowers the overall pitch aswell. It has made me fall back in love with the fiberskyn snare batter. The jingles only sound when the wedge is struck.
I have an E-ring on my snare aswell atm, so i have like a medium pitched tight almost sampled sounding snare.
Yes, but for me no, I want to keep my cross-sticks clean.
I am using it as a rimshot enhancer, sounds great, a slightly warmer fuller rimshot sound. It really makes me want to hear some wood hoops, and the tambourine nuance produces quite a sampled "pop" snare sound.
I might do what russ miller does and put both a groove wedge and the jingle wedge on my snare, the groove wedge is cheap but as i absolutely ZERO money i doubt that will happen soon.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Also after playing through the tracks my new favourite is "dennys track" followed by "italojazzer" and "lets play one 100".
Dennys tracks is just so much fun to play to, i don't really play like the wee sample beat they give you at start, i just made up my own stuff.
