Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Honestly, I need to pick up a head, but it's a rare head, I'd want to call them to make sure they have it before i drove there.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Yes Connor, a head.
I need to purchase a drum head, they are round, on go on drums, and then they get hit with sticks many many times.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
i'll have pics in a couple weeks maybe.... we'll see... my friend is on vacation.... lame.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
I'll have a plethora of heads for you to marvel at, i'll have a fiberskyn for you to look at. it's a rare Tibetan head, it cost me 4000 bucks to have it imported.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
hmmm.
when i typed "drum head" into the google search, it produced this picture:
is that a fiberskyn?

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
oh my word, you have further displayed your n00bness.
how dare you even compare that to the legendary fiberskyn, that's far more comparable to a pinstripe.
you are such a n00b.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
I am sorry for being such a n00b,
i shouldn't have questioned the power, and authority of the all powerful fiberskyn.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
may the almighty mythical gods of the drum head heaven have mercy on your soul.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
hey do you think i should get fiberskyns for my schools drum set next year. they'd be free. my school's drum tech works at remo and he has been on my case to take off the evans heads i put on. to be honest though i thought the evans heads sounded better on the remo drums than the remo heads.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
It's hard to say,
if you think they'd sound better then go for it.
Ask the school drum tech guy, he'd probably know pretty well what would be best, especially if he works at Remo.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
well when i started there we had fibers but then we switched to ambs and now ec1s. and these drums sound amazing with all of them.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Yeah, if he works at Remo, and is the tech at your school, he probably knows a thing or two about heads, just let him pick some out...
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Yeah,
get him to get you some. He'll know what he's talking about.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
jeffrey -- no joke, if Fork's has the head I want in stock, I'm down for going sometime, but I may coordinate it with the guy buying my 8" Tom so I can meet him sometime, so yeah.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
I wonder how big a difference there is between the MCX and VMX. I'd love an MCX, but if the VMX shells are similar, why not get a VMX instead, heh.
Because if I were to get one, I'd possibly upgrade the hoops to wood hoops anyway, and I wouldnt care too much about the ISS mounts, because I'd probably have it on a snare stand.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
OK, so tonight I moved my drums over to the new practice room. It's still not 100% finished yet, but it's good enough for us to get in there and start playing. So, we've still gotta do:
-The door: Door seals and put soundproof material inside.
-The baffle on the exhaust fan.
-The fresh air intake and baffle (we should do this before the door seals )
-The air con, but that's not a priority right now, seeing as its winter.
- A window, but that will probably wait a fairly long time.
So, we don't have any acoustic treatment in there yet, and my drums do sound pretty damn good. They're very very boomy, maybe even a little too boomy, but they do sound good. I still have to play around with the tuning and get it perfect.
Me and my brother were in there tonight playing around with a few new originals, and I was thinking that there was something missing in my kit. I felt like I really needed another crash/ride sound. Something with a nice clicky, woody ride sound, and a big wall of sound crash sound. I'm definitely leaning towards a Dream Bliss 20". There's a few that I like, I just gotta narrow it down. And it will be easy to get permission from my dad. I just have to tell him it's for our recordings (he's really into us getting the best recording sound). Waaaiiittt, I'm 18 now, I don't need to get permission off anyone anymore.
Soo, the near future should be fun, new cymbals, new studio, and recording.
And Ali, the VMX's do look nice, but could you maybe save up a bit more and get the MCX. You'd probably be happier in the long run if you got the Masters. But really, it's your decision.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
I'm pissed again.
I was going to sell my XS20 crash and buy a new reso.
But the stupid *** guy, told me to reserve it since LAST MONTH, and today he tells me he bought a new crash and can't buy it.
****ing moron.
He's a sucky drummer too. Doesn't pay for his own fecal matter. His daddy buys it for him. I hate dickheads like that.
yeah, I;m really ticked.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
40 bucks, considering i paid 75 for it, and it still has stock heads, i feel like i'm getting a decent deal.
is there any day this week that would be best for you?
there are a lot of parts i have to try to get together, well, not really that many, i just have to coordinate with you, make sure Fork's has the head I want, and coordinate with the tom purchaser...
