Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
not really, i plan on just putting the money from when i sell the guitar directly back into one of my bank accounts.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Yeah, I don't have as much cushion money as i like to have right now....
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
Agh, last night I had my second "gig" ever. And we played 12 songs for about 50+ people. Well, we played at my friends birthday, and I'd call it a gig.
We didn't get payed though. We need to start getting payed gigs.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
I've never gotten paid for a gig, although, i haven't played a gig in probably 7 or 8 years... and before that, my only gigs were at church events... so that doesn't really count.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
I've never played any gigs at all really.
Just school concerts/assemblies with jazz band.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
That's basically been the extent of my playing, i guess technically the largest crowd i've ever played kit for, was in pep band when our team made it to the state tournament, there only like 5000 people there... no one was paying attention to us though, so yeah.
Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
I got a couple of videos of the gig, but they turned off the lights after a while so its kinda hard to see. But it was good fun.
Though we played 12 songs, we only have about 2 or 3 on video. Though we didn't play original material.
Anna Molly- Incubus
Brianstorm- Arctic Monkeys
Creep - Radiohead
Drive- Incubus
I Bet You Look Good on The Dancefloor- Arctic Monkeys
Fake Tales of San Francisco- Arctic Monkeys
Everlong- Foo Fighters
Welcome Home- Coheed & Cambria
Sleep Now In The Fire- Rage Against the Machine
In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3- Coheed & Cambria
Purple Haze- Jimi Hendrix
O-Bla-Di, O-Bla-Da (our version)- The Beatles

heheh, yeah it was. Though loading my drumset and bringing it around and unloading it and breaking it down is not fun.
Infact I have a back ache and a neck ache right now.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
So you're a 100% cover band, Ali? Do you guys write any of your own material, or is it just not ready for gigs.

Oh how I feel sorry for those who are. Imagine ripping-down, transporting and setting-up an 8 piece with 15 cymbals. Even on a rack, racks in my opinion are just as bad to set-up as multiple stands (unless of course you're running something like 15 cymbals on separate arms).Ali G wrote:Matt wrote:makes ya glad you don't have a huge kit, no?

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
yeah i'm planning to do a couple of jazz gigs at some local restaurants with some of my friends, but we aren't totally sure about who our bassist will be, because the bassist we normally use is going to college and might not be available.

Re: The Official JJ Johnson Thread
yep, well, maybe, depends if i want to get my masters or my CPA.... it's my 4th year of college, and i'll have my bachelor's degree in May 2010.
I'm excited to be done and be a "grown-up"

I just see it as independence in general.
